Leading Seaman Alan Kenneth Adlington joined the Navy underage. He sailed from Halifax for overseas, on January 30, 1942, his 17th birthday. He was in service on-loan to the Royal Navy. He trained in Scotland on landing craft in combined operations. He made the North Africa Landing and Sicily where he was wounded. He returned home after being in the hospital for 12 months. Arriving in Halifax in 1942. He was there awaiting discharge when Mary, his Scottish War Bride of two years, arrived in October 1944.

He had three brothers who came through Pier 21 at various times, but all returned safely. We dedicate this plaque to him from our three children, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
