Mary Adlington

Mary Adlington married a Canadian navy man, Alan Adlington, in Glasgow, Scotland on November 30, 1942. He served overseas and was wounded at the Sicily Landings.

Mary sailed into Halifax on October 15, 1944 from Greenwich on board the Ille de France. It was a very bad crossing, hitting the tail end of a hurricane with no convoy when they arrived at Halifax. Her husband came on board to meet her because he had found out through the grape vine that a shipload of brides were arriving. They had not been allowed to give out any dates of departure before leaving. Mary spent her first winter in Halifax while her husband waited for discharge. Her husband sailed from Halifax in January 1942 on the Queen of Bermuda to serve overseas in the R.C.N.V.R.
