Enrolled in the army March 15, 1944 in Kingston, Ont., was a member of the Stormont, Dundas Glengary Highlanders.

April 1944 he was sent to Newmarket, Ont., where he trained as an Infantry Rifleman, from there he was sent to Camp Ipperwash for more training, finished there in July, 1944.

In Sept, 1944 he went to Debert, Nova Scotia to the training Brigade where he enlisted in the tank corp.

In Nov 1944 he was sent to the UK, he stayed there til Jan 4, 1945, when he was transferred to Continental Europe.

On Apr 12, 1945 while fighting in Germany he was severely wounded by 50 calibre machine gun. He suffered an abdomen wound which resulted in him losing 50% of his small intestine. He also had a compound comminuated fracture of his right patella.

April 28, 1945 he was shipped to a hospital in the UK then in early July 1945 was put on the hospital ship Ell Nill and returned to Canada. The ship landed in Halifax, Nova Scotia, from there he was put on a train and sent to Toronto. He was discharged from the army Aug 31, 1945. He remained in the hospital in Toronto til the spring of 1946, recovering from his injuries.
