War Bride

These are photos of Ellen Margaret Dunham, a war bride who served with the British Air Force, and George John LaRocque, who served with the Royal Canadian Air Force in England. My parents met in Bournemouth and married in Dorchester, Dorset, U.K. on January 24, 1945. In 1946, my mother sailed on the RMS Aquitania, arriving in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada at Pier 21. She travelled by train to re-unite with my father in Lanark, Ontario, where he was born and raised. My mother was sponsored and welcomed by my paternal grandmother, Mary (Minnie) Closs LaRocque, and my grandfather Martin LaRocque. A son and daughter were born in Lanark and two daughters were born and raised in Larder Lake, Northern Ontario, where the family relocated to in 1954. My father passed in 1994 and my mother in 2004.
