Ruby Leeson Kaspard

Henry M. Kaspard and I were married October 1, 1945 and shortly after, he returned home to Toronto, Canada. I followed in June 1946 on the Lady Nelson. I could not believe how well we were fed aboard the ship, and how white the bread was. I met lots of friends on the ship and we were all hoping for a good life in Canada. Arriving at Pier 21, we were given a quick cup of tea and then ushered on to the waiting trains. I arrived in Toronto and hardly recognized my new husband - he had gained so much weight! We celebrated 61 years of marriage before Mike passed away in October, 2006.
