Born 1918 in Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba died 1996. The fourth child to John Gillis Thompson and Gudrun Thordis Gudmundson.

He was a Golden glove boxer in Manitoba and this was where he got his nick name “Rocky”. A name he was called his whole adult life.

He enlisted in the Princess Patricia Infantry (P.P.C.L.I) in 1939 and was in active duty for 5 1/2 years until he was wounded in Italy.

After the war he found work in Sioux Lookout, Ontario. He worked at the Radar base (Sam Lake) on the Pine Tree Line first working for the American government and then after it was taken over by the Canadian government until his retirement.

He met and married Doris Violet Taylor 1947 and they had seven children. (Sharon, Joan, Leonard, Martin, John, Gail, Bryan).

His real passion was prospecting and the dream of gold mine. He pursued the dream his whole adult life. He spent his retirement years in West Hawk Lake, Manitoba mining gold and developing the claim. He was an avid hunter and hunted moose every season. I also remember at one time he hunted bear with a bow and arrow.

He loved his family and country!
