West Nova Scotia Regiment

My husband Langille Emerson Hopkins, was born in Clarks Harbour, Nova Scotia July 25, 1920. He enlisted in the army in 1939 at the age of 19. He was one of the original members of the West Nova Scotia Regiment. His regiment was part of the 1st Canadian Division that landed on Pachino Beach in Sicily 1943, serving in the Italian Campaign. He was wounded in Campobasso, Italy, while rescuing wounded comrades while under fire. He returned to Canada via the hospital ship at Pier 22. We married in August 1950 and had 3 daughters. He retired from the Federal Government after 35 years of service. He died on July 10, 1994. Our family is very proud of him and his many years of dedication to his family, job and regiment as a member of the WNSR Memory Club.
