Royal Canadian Armoured Corps

My father Lieutenant Colonel Gordon Carington Smith (now deceased) returned from war in 1946 and my mother and I went down to meet him at Pier 21. He had been away for six years less a month. I will never forget seeing him leaning against one of the funnels and he waved to us. We were very excited as we had not seen him for six years.

That is my memory of Pier 21 besides seeing the Queen Mary and the Queen Elizabeth dock there either towards the end of the war or just after the war. I think that on one occasion there was a strike in New York and one of them came to Halifax.
