War Bride

I got married October 11th to Canadian solider, Private Clarence Melville Wright. I received notice to sail for Canada on the Queen Mary in June 1946. It was a very enjoyable trip. MacKenzie King was then Prime Minister and gave a speech to the war brides, as he also was a passenger. I met by my husband in Moncton, was introduced to his family, and then we had to live in with them until we found a place of our own. My mother-in-law had been sending letters to my Mum, stating that she would treat me like one of her own. She did that and we became good friends. The only thing I didn't like, and still don't like is the very cold weather in the winter. Other than that I adopted ways of Canadian living and today I'm proud to be a Canadian. I am a member of the Nova Scotian War Brides Association and a member of the I.O.D.E.
