Our mother, Theresa McGee, was born, in 1925, to John and Sarah McGee in a small village in Northern Ireland. She had four sisters and two brothers in her family; John, Katherine, Bridget Anne, Mary, Shamus and Gertrude. She married John Gray, a Canadian soldier, in October, 1945, in Fivemiletown. She left for Canada in July, 1946 departing from Liverpool, aboard the MV Georgic for a one-week journey across the Atlantic Ocean. The MV Georgic was the last ship built by Cunard White Star, who also built the Titanic. She landed in Halifax on the 15th July, 1946 with 3300 people on board, 337 were wives of Canadian servicemen. She then travelled by train for 3+ days arriving in Woodstock, Ontario where she met up with her husband, John. They started their life in a small community, Huntingford, in Oxford County. Over the next few years, they moved around finally settling in the village of Embro where they lived for the next 40 years. They raised their children there; John, Leonard, Patricia, Gerald, Cathy, Michael, Rosemarie, and Sharry. Upon Theresa’s death in 2009, she was taken home to her beloved Ireland and was laid to rest in the family plot in Fivemiletown.
Our mother, was a fun-loving determined woman, who always made the best of what she had. She found great joy in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always had a smile on her face and kind words to say. She loved animals and rescued several over her lifetime, not only dogs but wildlife as well. She will always be remembered. Thank you for giving each and every one of us a wee bit of your Irish spirit.
Your son, Michael
