The Eusebius Luiken Family

We came from Oldemarkt, Holland, but sailed from Le Havre on February 12, 1949 on the S.S Samaria. The family consisted of: Eisebius, age 48, Catharina, age 43. The children were: Nicolaas J. 19, Hendrikus 17, Anna Marie 16, Eisebius A. 14, Jacobus 12, Euphemia 11, Batholemeus 10, Nicolaas B. 8, Juliana 7, Anna E. 5.

Our destination was the Cranebill Ranch owned by Roy Inman near Dimsdale, Alberta. We arrived in Halifax on February 23, 1949. On the voyage over, we encountered a severe storm. I only remember that my brother Batholemeus was the only one who was sick. The men and women slept in different quarters. Once in Halifax we took the train the rest of the way across Canada to our destination. It was cold with lots of snow when we arrived at Dimsdale. We were ill prepared to dress in such cold weather, but we soon learned.
