Stephen Tychowecky

Stephen Tychowecky remembered having to clean the ship before they sailed to Canada.Off the British coast, they came alongside a British ship and immigration documents were passed along a cable between the two vessels. Suffering somewhat from motion sickness, Stephen was befriended by a cook who helped him deal with his nausea by feeding him citrus fruit.

Arriving in Halifax at Pier 21 in the evening meant the lights of the city were quite a sight. After documents and health status were verified, Stephen was given $12.00 cash and wished well in his new country. He boarded a train for Montreal, and from there travelled on to Winnipeg.
