Silvio, Teresa, e Marisa Bozzo / An Immigration Story

It all began back in the beautiful, medieval town of Donnici Superiore, Cosenza, Calabria, Italy when Silvio Bozzo (born April 8, 1918) married Teresa Canale (born June 9, 1928) on January 28, 1951. During the Christmas season the happy couple welcomed their firstborn, Marisa, On December 2, 1951.

The following April, the young family sailed on the Homeland from the port of Naples and arrived at Pier 21, Halifax, Canada on April 10, 1952. They travelled by train to Toronto where they visited Paesani who had already immigrated to the area. After spending some time in Hamilton, Ontario with the family of Silvio’s brother Augusto Bozzo, they travelled to their final destination of Sault Ste Marie, Ontario where they were welcomed by Teresa’s parents and two siblings (Antonio, Assunta (née Bruni), Saverio, and Roberto Canale).

In the Soo, Silvio and Teresa raised four children (Marisa, Italo, Sandra, Linda) and eventually become the grandparents of six precious grandchildren (Mark, Marty, Kevin, Alec, Christopher, Andrea).

Unfortunately, Silvio passed away on April 24, 1995. At the time of writing, Teresa is 92 and the proud bisnonna of five great grandchildren.

I am extremely proud of my Italian/Canadian heritage.
