Pieter A. H. F. Lammens

I was born in 1937 in Holland and was sponsored by Eddy and Agnes DeBoard who were living in Iroquois, ON. Eddy was in the Canadian Army and became a good friend of my father at the end of the war.
After a couple of weeks working at the Seaway Project, I found employment at DuPont Canada, Maitland, ON. Was hired by Grant MacKay, an ex WWII RAF gunner, who was shot down over Holland and was saved by a Dutch family. Somewhat unreal that two Canadian veterans started to mold my life in Canada. Grant and I became very good friends.

I was successful in obtaining a Technologist degree in chemical engineering and a high interest in Canadian architecture eventually resulted in getting a Technologist degree in architecture as well.

I met my wife, Cornelia Arkeveld, late 1959. She was 14 years old when she arrived at Pier 21. Corrie came over on the “Groote Beer” in 1954. We were married on April 7, 1962 and have made Brockville home base ever since. We have three children (Ellisa, Peter and Amanda), seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

I have always been interested in sports, having won two Dutch and one Canadian championships in rowing. Switched over to sailing a Soling in 1972 and took part in two World championships. Was Commodore of the Brockville Yacht Club from 1991 to 1993.

Two head and shoulders portraits side by side, a woman on the left and a man on the right. Both are smiling broadly.

Old newspaper clipping of four young men sitting in a racing boat, title of the clipping is Canadian Champions.

A coloured portrait of a family of five, the mother and father are seated and three adult children stand behind them.

A nice coral-coloured house as seen from across the street. There are lots of flowers and a hedge surrounding the house.

Two men in a racing sailboat veer around a buoy.

A smiling man with glasses looks off to the side of the camera.
