Norma and Bruce Salter

Our two daughters had our names put on the Sobey Wall of Honour at Pier 21. I was one of the War Brides arriving from England on the Aquitania, docking at Pier 21 on March 22, 1946. The voyage was certainly not a luxury cruise but I was not sea-sick and was able to enjoy the food.

I met five other War Brides from different parts of England and we chummed around together during the voyage. After five years in Canada I sometimes wondered how these brides fared. Unfortunately I did not keep in touch with them and most were heading for other provinces.

My husband, Bruce, sailed from Pier 21 on the Louis Pasteur and landed in Greenback, Scotland, in time to celebrate Christmas 1940.

He served in the Royal Canadian Artillery in England and Europe returning to Canada on the Pasteur June 1945. He can remember how elated he felt as they tied up at Pier 21 and stepped on Nova Scotian soil again.

Bea (Moore) was about to board the train to join her husband in Napanee, Ontario. I met my nephew for the first time as they emerged form the building at Pier 21.
