Muriel E. Malcolm

My mother was one of the thousands of war brides on her way to join her husband, Robert, who had left the Army and re-entered civilian life in Magog, Quebec. She came from Brecon, a very small town in Wales, and this was her first time outside of the town. She came with my brother Robert, then a baby of less than one year of age and carried him in a traditonal Welsh shawl. I still marvel at the courage of this young woman, leaving all that she knew behind her, to go to a strange country and rejoin a man who she had hardly even known. They remained married for four more children and 50 years. Mom now resides in Calgary, Alberta while Dad passed away in 1996.
