Michael Joseph O'Hara

Michael Joseph O'Hara came to Canada from Ireland at the age of 3. On April 6, 1929 Michael departed from Londonderry, Ireland aboard the R.M.S. Caledonia along with his mother, Mary, father Owen, sister Rose and brothers John, Hugh and James. One week later, April 13, 1929 they arrived at Pier 21, Halifax Nova Scotia. Arriving with only $18 in his pocket, Owen and his family traveled by Canadian Pacific Railway to a farm in southwest Ontario. Owen's employment at a farm in Shrewsbury, Ontario was arranged prior to their trip to Canada as the Canadian government sponsored their immigration.
