Leon and Mary Tymoschuk and Family

My parents Leon and Mary Tymoschuk, and three of my older brothers, Max, Joak and Alexander, set sail from Rotterdam aboard the Volendam on July 10, 1929. They landed at Pier 21 in Halifax on August 8, 1929. My brother Jake became very ill and died shortly after arriving in Canada. Travelling by train my family settled and began farming in the Swan River Valley in Manitoba.

While my parents immigrated to Canada with three older brothers, a fourth brother was being raised by his maternal aunt and uncle in Ukraine. In 1934 they sailed to Paraguay aboard the Neptunia. My brother John spent many years in Buenos Aires, where he married Maria, and in October 1962 with three small children, immigrated to Canada. After many unique twists and turns in our history, our family was finally reunited.

My family grew to involve eleven surviving siblings. As the youngest of this first generation in Canada I am so very proud of our family's many successes in business and education. The Pier 21 Society is so deserving of credit for preserving a record of our Canadian beginning.
