Kay Smyk Kowalchuk

Kateryna Smyk, mother, was forcibly relocated by Germany from Turje, Ukraine. After attending a church service, she was herded into a truck and taken to Germany to work as a forced labour. Daria was born in Heidenheim, Germany on February 28, 1946. After placing ads in various newspapers, she managed to find her husband in Canada. He sent funds so the family could be reunited. They arrived on May 20, 1950. Kateryna did not see her own family in the Ukraine again until 1976.
