K. Shaw Family

Ken, Margaret, Lynn, Hazel and Kevin Shaw arrived at Pier 21 in Halifax, Nova Scotia aboard the Georgic on April 26, 1952; Kevin's first birthday. We sailed from Southampton on April 19, 1952.

Our Mom, Margaret,was quite sick for the first few days. On the fifth day there was a terrible storm and the Nursing sister couldn't understand why she was not sick on that day while all the seasoned sailors were.

We saw food we had never seen, like corn on the cob and fruits that weren't very common in England like bananas.

Our baby brother Kevin started to walk aboard ship and couldn't walk on dry land for a couple days. He must have missed the role of the ship.

We met many nice people from other parts of England and Germany and Holland. When we landed in Halifax, our family had $16.00.
