Hilma Frenzel Halatsis

Hilma Frenzel Halatsis, born in East Germany. Sailed on May 14, 1956 from Rotterdam on the vessel the Maasdam.

Hilma sailed alone, a sole pioneer in search of a good and meaningful life.

We admire her courage and optimism. Having no friends, no family, no job and knowing only a very few words in English, she patiently and tirelessly made her way across Canada, finally settling in Vancouver, B.C. With her dogged determination and the will to experience all that life could offer, she reached for the sky and created a rainbow of memories.

Now as a wife, mother of two and grandmother of four we are so grateful for all her inspiration as she continues to focus on all the goodness we have in our lives. Through her loving and nurturing manner she taught by example that it's not what you have in life that matters, but how you live your life. Thank you for being such an amazing role model.

Your loving family.
