Henri Schroeders and Family

Henri, son of Jozef Schroders and Isabelle Pleyers, was born on January 23, 1923 in the town of Bocholz, Holland. He met Maria Hubertina (Tiny) Schnakkers, daughter of Petronella Ramekers and Hubert Schnakkers. She was born on October 4, 1923 in the town of Mechelem, Holland. They married on February 12,1947. They were living in the town of Camerug, in the municipality of Vaals when they decided to move to Canada.

"On the 19th of July 1954 we left Rotterdam for Canada on the S.S. Groote Beer. Our Five children Isabelle, Lambert, Maria, Nico and Jozef were with us. We arrived in Halifax on the 28th of July. In the afternoon we boarded a train for Montreal, from there we headed for Howick, County Chateauguay. We had to be settled there before the 15th of August.

After working there on the dairy farm of Robert Tolhurst, we moved to Richmond in the Eastern Townships. At first I worked as a manager on a dairy farm, and later in 1964 we bought that farm.

We had four more children Nellie, John, Shirley and Henry. The oldest son took over our farm. Seven of our children have settled in the Eastern Townships. Isabelle lives in Montreal with her husband and Jozef (joe) and his family live in Mississauga. Now by the year 2001, we are returned and still living in Richmond."
