She looks to the east with outstretched hand to welcome the stranger from another land
"now is the time, do not fear
after your journey, I'll meet you here"
at Pier 21

One by one they answer the call
each with an incredible tale to tell
only time will fully comprehend
the joys awaiting her immigrant friend
At Pier 21

Surviving the journey from distant shore
destitute and weary, searching for more
longing for peace and serenity
now the dream becomes reality
At Pier 21

Halifax harbour, finally in sight
home to refugee and pilgrim alike
landed status will surely be
the beginning of a life of prosperity
At Pier 21

Some with only their ticket and name
others bring all their worldly gain
one gift they always will share in common
an overwhelming, gracious Canadian welcome
At Pier 21

A nation was built by those who came
enriched by thousands who staked their claim
and generations to come with grateful heart
would fondly remember their humble start
At Pier 21

The blessings of history continue to last
for I am a fortunate son of the past
a million or more who by ship did arrive
to exchange their past, have now come alive!
