Fokke and Nieskje Fokkema Lok

From the city of Sneek, the family left Rotterdam, The Netherlands on February 22, 1952 and arrived at Pier 21, Halifax, Nova Scotia on March 1st, 1952.

They arrived in Canada on board the "SS Ryndam" of the Holland America Line. Fokke (Frank) was 40 years old, and Nieskje (Nancy) was 38 years old, when they arrived. Three children in tow: Aagie (Agnes) age 7, Klaas (Chuck) age 2, and Mink Pieter (Michael) aged 9 months. They traveled by train from Halifax to Wallaceburg in southern Ontario where they settled. A fourth Child, Rida, was born in Canada in 1958, and the family became Canadian Citizens in 1959.

Fokke and Nieskje have since passed away, and this "Brick" is from their children in their memory, and for their foresight in bringing them to this wonderful country.
