Chris and Roger Nash

In May 1966, I arrived at Pier 21 only because Cunard Lines staff was on strike. We were dropped off by Holland American in Halifax instead of going on to Montreal. I'll never forget that first view of Canada. Everything was so big - huge cars, wide streets, tall building. It was overwhelming and frightening seeing it and then no one could say how long the train trip to Montreal would take. Two days later I arrived in Montreal. Three days later I married my husband, Roger, in Hawkesbury.

We were to stay one year but Sudbury and Canada captured our hearts and minds. This is our country now and Pier 21 is a special starting place.
