Anna Kucharska Baransky

Anna Kucharska entered Canada as a landed immigrant, coming to her father who was residing in Toronto, Ontario at that time. At the age of seventeen, Anna left the only world she had known. Leaving behind her mother and siblings, she undertook the long and difficult journey to an unknown country, travelling by herself. She left Poland on June 18, 1929 aboard the SS Estonia, which docked at Pier 21 on June 28, 1929. When her father decided to return to the family in Poland the following year, Anna remained in Canada and made it her home. In 1932, she married Steve Baransky. Together they built a new life, had a thriving grocery store business for many years and continued to reside in Toronto until their deaths- Steve in 1965 and Anna in May of 1999. They were not fortunate enough to have children of their own, however they passed on a wonderful legacy to their three nieces, who will cherish and honour their memories forever.
