Alice Baker Gibbs

Alice Gibbs was born on June 7, 1924, in Keighley, England. She served in England during World War II and met Robert Lionel Gibbs, an officer in the RCAF, on the base where they were both stationed. They were married on June 7, 1945. Robert was shipped home to Canada at the end of the war and Alice applied for a Canadian Travel Certificate in London, England. She boarded the Aquitania in South Hampton with her infant son Donald on August 8, 1946 and arrived in Halifax on August 14, 1946. They were immediately put on a train for western Canada and disembarked in Winthorst, Saskatchewan to start their new life with Robert. She subsequently had two daughters, Patricia and Wendy.

Over the years they lived in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Ottawa, Ontario, St. Catherine's, Ontario, Calgary, Alberta and finally back to Ottawa. She was always very active in Girl Guides of Canada and there is a building at Camp Woolsey in Ottawa named "Gibbs Lodge" in recognition of the dedicated volunteer commitment of both Robert and Alice.

This brick is dedicated to her from her grandchildren on the occasion of her 81st birthday and 60th wedding anniversary.
