Alfred and Liselotte Kraus

Alfred and Liselotte Kraus were a couple of newlyweds when they decided to leave their hometown of Kirchheim/Teck, Germany. Liselotte was 3 months pregnant when they boarded the Arosa Kulm on December 8, 1953. After a very rough twelve day voyage they landed in Halifax on December 20, 1953. They continued their journey via train making a brief stop in Winnipeg to celebrate Christmas with friends who had immigrated from their hometown a year earlier.

Their final destination was Calgary, Alberta where they stayed with his parents, Eduard and Elisabeth Krueger and three other siblings who immigrated the year before. As a family, they lived and worked together, saved enough money to purchase property and build their own homes. Three years later they moved into their first home on Bridge Crescent. Alfred worked in construction as a master carpenter with various firms in Calgary. He later formed a partnership and ran a successful construction business for many years. When the partnership's business was concluded, he continued as an independent contractor. The testament to his work can be seen in many projects throughout Calgary and around the Province of Alberta. Liselotte worked as a homemaker and later for a number of years on the sales staff of Sears in Chinook Centre until her retirement.

They raised two children; Ingrid Kraus now living in Maple Ridge, BC and Corinne Misko who resides in Coquitlam, BC with her husband Brian and daughter Kassandra. Today Alfred and Liselotte still live in Calgary, travelling and enjoying their retirement.
