Alfonso came to Canada in 1953, at the age of 18, to join his brother and work in construction. He was reunited not only with his brother Mario, but also with his sister Nanda, and his oldest sister Restituta, whom he had never met before that day in May of 1953. His intention was to work in Canada and earn enough money to one day head back to Italy. But, he soon realised that the opportunities in Canada were far greater than those in Italy. So, in 1962, he headed back to his hometown of Pescosolido, married Luisa Faticante, and they both returned to Canada to build a new life and raise a family together in Richmond Hill, Ontario. They have both worked very hard for all they have. They are very proud of their heritage, but they are also very proud to be Canadian. This pride continues to live on in their two children and seven grandchildren.
