Stephanie Bernard moved to Ontario from Jamaica in 2007. In 2013, she moved to Iqaluit and became the president of the Nunavut Black History Society, which runs Black History Month festivities and programming every February. In 2020, Stephanie received the city’s Community Development Award and the Sankofa Award for Volunteer Achievement. In 2021, she was featured in Chatelaine magazine and is a 2022 recipient of the Accomplished Black Canadian Women Award.

Soft Landing is a project curated by Ian Keteku which showcases the words and stories of prominent living Canadians who’ve immigrated from another country. These individuals have contributed to Canadian society in meaningful ways. They’ve excelled in areas of entrepreneurship, environmentalism, science, and community activism.

The project is funded by the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21
