In partnership with the Atlantic Jewish Council, the Azrieli Foundation and the Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre, join us for this special event featuring the inspiring story of Rebecca Teitelbaum and the book of recipes she compiled while imprisoned at Ravensbrück concentration camp.

In secret and at great risk, Teitelbaum stole paper and an indigo pencil from the office in order to create the book. The paper was used sparingly, with two recipes per page. She traded food for a needle and thread and meticulously stitched and bound the pages. She wrote in French so that the women in the camp, most of whom were from Belgium, could read the recipes.
Rebecca brought the book with her when she immigrated to Canada via Pier 21 in 1951, and it became part of the Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre's collection. This extraordinary artifact is currently on loan at the Museum and is on display as part of the temporary exhibition eat make share: a taste of immigration.

Participants are invited to view the Teitelbaum book, to taste a recipe from it and to learn more about Rebecca's story directly from a Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre team member who will be joining us virtually.
