Retired Minister dies in Milltown

Rev. Gordon Henry Berriman-Rutter of Milltown, a retired Anglican and Episcopalian minister, passed away at his home on Pleasant St. Thursday, recently at the age of 57. He had been in ill health for over two years. Funeral services were held Saturday from his home and later from Christ Church in St. Stephen. Internment followed in Moores Mills Cemetery. Born in Pontypridd, South Wales, Mr. Rutter came to Canada in 1928 where he was ordained a deacon in the church in Halifax. In 1930 in Halifax he was ordained a priest….Mr. Rutter, a graduate of London College of Musid, was a pianist of note. He played the organ and piano at many church functions in the district and contributed his music ability over radio stations in Nova Scotia. In addition he tried his hand at composing and submitted musical compositions to publishers. One selection was accepted. He was well known in the communities he lived in for his offerings of Welsh songs. Mr. Rutter is survived by his wife, Amy; two daughters Shirley of Newport, Rhode Island, and Isabell of Fall River, Massachusetts; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Berriman-Rutter of Wales.
