Over one hundred years after the sinking of the Empress of Ireland, the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 presents a dramatic exhibition that will take visitors to the heart of one the greatest maritime disasters in Canada’s history. Artifacts from this once-splendid ocean liner, historical documents and eyewitness accounts will help bring to life stories of loss and rescue, despair and bravery. As well, visitors will learn the storied history of the Empress of Ireland including the role it played in immigration and the development of Canada.

Nationally Acclaimed Dancer, Wen Wei Wang Performing at Pier 21’s Annual Public Meeting

The Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 will hold its Annual Public Meeting on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The public and media are welcome.

Attendees will be able to explore our newly renovated exhibits, hear about the past year’s highlights, as well as learn some of the Museum’s exciting future plans. Also, attendees will enjoy a special performance by renowned Vancouver-based dancer and choreographer Wen Wei Wang. The event will also celebrate recent major gifts totalling $500,000 and share how donor support continues to help the Museum broaden its reach and expand its programming across Canada.

The public will have the opportunity to engage with members of the Museum’s Board of Trustees and its Senior Leadership Team.

Pier 21 Reads Launches with Scotiabank Giller Prize-winning Author Esi Edugyan

This fall, Scotiabank Giller Prize-winning author Esi Edugyan will launch Pier 21 Reads, with two free author readings at the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21.

On Thursday, September 24 at 10 a.m. and Friday, September 25 at 7 p.m., Ms. Edugyan will speak on the themes of immigration and Canadian identity as well as read excerpts from her novels Half-Blood Blues, The Second Life of Samuel Tyne and Dreaming of Elsewhere: Observation on Home. A second generation Canadian whose parents immigrated to Canada from Ghana, she will also engage attendees in a special Q & A and book signing.
